Lecturer
Kristina Žalytė (b.1993) is an interdisciplinary artist, who graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in the United Kingdom in 2017 with a BA in Painting and Printmaking, as well as a professional qualification as a carpenter at the School of Crafts “Masters of the Garden Estate” in 2024. In 2024 she was awarded a Lithuanian Culture Scholarship.
The artist explores the relationship between skill and spontaneity, looking for points of interaction between craft, design, function and conceptual contemporary art. She is interested in the individual’s relationship to collective memory and the sacredness of the domestic, as well as vulnerability, heartbreak and the prophecies of the everyday. She works with ceramics, painting, wood, drawing, performance art, vocals and text. Currently, Žalytė’s work is dominated by themes of archaeology and finds, and she draws on references from ethnography and folk crafts, combining them with the sensibility of contemporary man. Expressive, often autobiographical motifs prevail in Žalytė’s drawings and paintings, and the plots are often repeated, thus creating an all-encompassing myth of the individual.
